In the evaluation of smell control, the whole odor at the fence line is assessed as if it may be described as one so-called sewage treatment plant odor. An olfactometer is used as a dilution scale to determine the total scent concentration or odor strength. We do know, however, that various wastewater treatment methods can produce a variety of odors, and that these odors are diluted out at varying rates.
